Meet our Board

A Graduate of the Senior Executive Programme for Africa from the prestigious Harvard and Wits Business Schools, Mr Muhtar Bakare attended Kings College, Lagos after which he went on to obtain a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Architecture, both from Obafemi Awolowo University. He is an ex-Banker and Nigeria's renowned and mist important independent publisher.

His professional career spans many years of executive experience. He started out in the banking industry at Citibank Nigeria where he received a certificate of Long Service for his contributions to the company. He went on to serve as an Executive Director at Trust Bank of Africa (Now Sterling Bank) where he led the Sales and Marketing Groups of the institution turning around the fortunes of the company via injection of fresh capital and overturning a consistent loss position in just 2 years.

His passions led him to the media with a keen interest in editing and publishing, Mr Bakare assisted in the creation of the editorial department of leading Nigerian Newspaper NEXT. Since 2004, he has been a publisher at independent publishing powerhouse, Kachifo Limited, housing the works of internationally renowned and award winning Nigerian authors. Currently, he serves as the Managing Director of Person Education Publishing Limited Nigeria, the leading education services provider in the world.

Mr. Adedoyin Afun is a Partner in Bloomfield Law Practice, a leading multidisciplinary firm which provides legal advice on all aspects of corporate and commercial law in Nigeria. His core areas of practice are Corporate Finance, Maritime, Aviation & International Trade, Banking & Securities, Foreign Investments & Divestments, Insurance and Project Finance. A product of the prestigious Kings College, Lagos, Adedoyin holds a law degree from the University of Ibadan and a Masters of Laws degree in International Commercial and Maritime Law from Swansea University, Wales. Laide Agboola holds a Master of Science degree in Finance and a Diploma of Finance from Imperial College Business School, London, as well as a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, Sheffield.

He is a Co-Founder and founding Managing Director of Alternative Capital Partners Limited, a full-fledged wealth management firm where he served as a Board Director.

Whilst at Alternative Capital Partners Limited (ACAP), he was instrumental in the set up and take off of the company. He also served as a member of the Acap CanaryGrowth Fund Investment Committee. A role he played since inception. He originated and contributed significantly

Previously, he serves as the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Strategy & Transformation Committee of the Board of Law Union & Rock Insurance Plc. He also served as a member of the ACAP CanaryGrowth Fund Investment Committee. A role he played since inception.

Apart from his strong private sector experience, Laide served as the Technical Adviser to a former Honorable Minister of State for Finance, Federal Republic of Nigeria between 2007 and 2010 with a focus on financial and capital markets as well as special projects.

His other private sector experience include working with leading Corporate Finance teams including those of Investment Banking & Trust Company Plc (now Stanbic IBTC Capital Limited, a subsidiary of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc), UBA Global Markets Limited (now UBA Capital Plc, a subsidiary of United Bank for Africa Plc) as well as BGL Plc and a brief stint at Alitheia Capital Limited.

Obinna Onunkwo is a seasoned securities specialist with over a decade experience in investment management. He has a rich background in investment banking, asset management, equities research and trading and has over the years played active roles as lead fund manager in corporate actions including mergers, acquisitions, private equity investments, equity raisings and valuations through the various capacities in which he has served.

He began his career with Guardian Express Bank Plc and was part of the pioneer team of Guardian Express Trust Limited. He thereafter proceeded to Spring Capital Markets Limited where he was the pioneer Head of the Asset Management Unit which oversaw the management of assets in excess of N18.5 billion.   read more ...
He also served as the Head of Asset Management Unit in Kedari Capital Limited in which capacity he also performed excellently. While in Spring Capital Markets Limited, he worked on a number of transactions part of which was the development and execution of the framework for the consummation of several Repo transactions with a cumulative value of over N16.5billion and the management of equity investments in excess of N17 billion on behalf of institutional clients.

He also initiated and developed the initial framework for the execution of the reconstruction of 42.5bn units of Spring Bank Plc shares which was at that time the first share reconstruction of a quoted company in Nigeria.

Obinna was the pioneering Managing Director, Fund/Portfolio Management at Alternative Capital Partners Limited. As a pioneer director, he drove the operational success and positioning of the wealth management business, facilitating the first ever acquisition and merger of two mutual funds from a bank by a local fund manager as well as the achievement of N9bn in overall assets under management within 2 years of operations.

He was also an instrumental convener and member of the ACAP CanaryGrowth Fund Investment Committee from inception and at that time led the team that delivered above market returns in excess of 35%. Obinna seats on the Board of Law Union & Rock Insurance Plc and serves on various committees accordingly. He holds an MBA from Lagos Business School and a bachelor degree in Economics from the University of Port Harcourt; where he also received several prizes as the Best Graduating Student of his set.

He has attended various foreign and local courses in Investment Management. He is happily married with children. close×
